A constant presence in electronic music over the past decade, Dauwd’s creative journey has unfolded with refreshing unconventionality.
Born in the US to an Iraqi father and English mother, and raised in rural North Wales, he grew up far removed from the club spaces he would eventually frequent. This unique background informs his perspective as both a versatile DJ and a continually evolving producer, blending influences that span cultures, genres, and eras.
A firm fixture in Berlin’s alternative scene, Dauwd is a core member of the influential collective African Acid Is The Future, whose dynamic and distinctive style has a strong influence on both his DJ sets and productions. Initially gaining attention for his releases on Ghostly International, Ninja Tune, and Kompakt Records—key players in the fertile post-dubstep landscape of British electronic music—Dauwd’s kaleidoscopic sound quickly evolved. Touching on kosmische, Detroit deep house, and the experimental works of Raymond Scott and Terry Riley, his debut solo album, Theory of Colours (2017), seamlessly melded the pulse of his teenage clubbing years with an experimental and sophisticated sensibility.
Following a brief hiatus from releasing music, Dauwd returned in 2020 with the launch of his own imprint, Psssh Records. Initially focused on his own productions, Psssh Records showcases Dauwd’s deep, dubby, and dance-centric style. His first releases under this label—a diverse trilogy—sold out quickly, supported by a wide array of influential DJs, including Ben UFO, Marcel Dettmann, and The Ghost. Psssh Records marks a new chapter in Dauwd’s career, with a highly anticipated collaborative album set to drop by mid-2025.
