Astan is an artistic performer, song-writer, experimental singer/rapper, mover, actress and event curator based in Berlin.
Born in France and traveling regularly to Mali since the age of 3, Astan grew up with a double culture which led her to consider herself today as a "child of reconciliation". Through her music she explores various genres such as jazz, drill, trap, slam, trip-hop or ethno/afro/diasporic electronic sounds that she combines together. She is developing a musical universe that she calls « Gangsta Jazz ». She is also the lead singer of the band Asphalt Djelis whose music is described as Afro-diasporic futuristic, and one of the singers of the collective Sonic Interventions whose sound identity is described as “ancient-future grooves”. She mainly deals with the themes of love, protest, cultural heritage, dystopia and hope.
She has appeared as an actress in music videos and commercials, mainly in Germany and France, and got a role in a musical in Berlin in 2019. In February 2022 she played a role on a new Amazon TV-show produced by Warner Bros Germany. In July 2022 she played the role of Nila in the short film « Indigo » directed by Mona Okulla Obua.
Astan also worked twice with the Deutsches Theater in Berlin where she facilitated workshops and created performances with a group of participants that were also shown at the Deutsches Theater.
She has been involved in many creative collaborations such as with Puma, Sevdaliza, the Hoodoo Musical in Berlin, Nyege Nyege in Uganda, Sony.
Astan curates cultural events. She is the co-founder of Cult-Sup, a cultural event focusing mainly on pushing the artistic afro-underground scene and sharing ancestral knowledge. She has been part of the organization of successful events in Berlin such as the Afrikkan Pride, Congo Fundraiser and Hybrid Visuals.
She was also working as a stylist for the Afro-Futuristic fashion concept KASAPIO.
